Kate McDermott

Kate McDermott’s sculptures and drawings inspire conversations about the rights and experiences of persons with disabilities. These pieces welcome viewers to explore alternative narratives in regards to the stigmas about those with different abilities. Kate will graduate from Curry College with her BA in Studio Arts and a Psychology Minor in the spring of 2021. 
 

At Curry, Kate has worked with adults with developmental disabilities and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As part of this experience, she incorporated art instruction into client sessions to meet therapeutic goals. After graduation, Kate will continue to explore the application of studio arts to challenge our own assumptions of the disability narrative and to directly support individuals with differences in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
